The “Virgin and Child with Saints Jhon the Baptist, Augustin, Peter and Paul” (Venice, Galleria dell’Accademia).is an altarpiece coming from the church of Santa Maria della Neve in Ariano Polesine, Rovigo. According to critics, Garofalo was inspired by Raphael’s “Madonna del Granduca”, considering the evident similarity with it. By the way, references were found to Dosso, too, especially in the Saints firm looks, since their glances seem to draw invisible trajectories. On the bottom right, dating and signature: BENVENUTO GAROFALO P. MDXVIII.
