The “Massacre of Innocents” (Ferrara, Pinacoteca Nazionale) was co-executed in 1519 by Garofalo, Ortolano and Dossi for the Festini Chapel in the Church of San Francesco. Gestures and expressions are incredibly dramatic, thanks to the wise use of light that, with chiaroscuro, pervades figures, conferring a thrilled atmosphere to the scene. The whole composition is a clear reference to Raphael, while the use of light is an undeniable homage to Titian and Dosso.
