“The Lamentation of Christ” (Milan, Pinacoteca di Brera) is an altarpiece executed by Garofalo in 1527 for the Church of the Monastery of Anthony the Great in Ferrara. The iconography is similar to the “Entombment” that he the artist painted in 1530 for the church of San Francesco in Argenta, today kept in the Pinacoteca of Munich. The touching emotion that pervades all the characters' faces is well balanced with the calm poses of classical inspiration.
